Class 3: Mother’s Day Pop-Up Cards - March 2025
To celebrate Mother’s Day, the children created thoughtful pop-up cards, complete with colourful spring flowers that “popped” up when opened. They put great care into their designs, thinking about what would make someone smile. It was lovely to see how much pride they took in creating something special for someone important in their lives.
Class 3: Arrietty Animation Project - March 2025
This term, the children explored the world of animation through the Studio Ghibli film The Secret World of Arrietty. Inspired by the film—and Mr Taylor’s visit to the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo—they learned about the history of animation before designing their own characters and stories. Using plasticine models and the iMotion app, they created stop-motion animations full of imagination, creativity, and charm. A lovely blend of storytelling and hands-on learning!
Class 3: Frida Kahlo Colour Theory - May 2025
As part of their topic on Frida Kahlo, children explored colour theory by creating their own colour wheels. They began by identifying the primary colours and mixing them to discover secondary and tertiary shades. This hands-on activity helped them understand how artists like Kahlo used bold, expressive colour in their work. The children worked carefully to blend and place each colour accurately, developing both their artistic skills and their understanding of how colour can convey emotion and meaning in art.
Class 3: Frida Kahlo Self-Portraits - May 2025
Children explored how artists use self-portraits to express identity, emotion, and personal experience. Inspired by Frida Kahlo’s distinctive style, they sketched their own self-portraits, focusing on proportion, facial features, and thoughtful details that reflect their individuality. The activity encouraged careful observation, creativity, and a deeper appreciation of how art can be used to communicate personal stories.
Class 4: Yayoi Kusama inspired Sculptures - April 2026
Children made their Yayoi Kusama inspired sculptures using paper maiche in the sunshine. The children will paint these in her signature polka dot style next week. They then painted their sculptures in the style of Yayoi Kusama, using her signature polka dots
